Difference between FANUC α and β series motors

1. The standard serial encoder built into the motor provides high feedback accuracy, 64K per revolution for the α series and 32K per revolution for the β series (the feedback accuracy of the α series is much higher than that of the β series)

2. The encoder resolution of the α series is 16 million per revolution, and the encoder resolution of the β series is 128,000 per revolution.

3. The α series servo amplifier has a high-precision current detection function

4. The torque of the α series is also much greater than that of the β series

5. The protection level of the α series is higher than that of the β series

6. The β series servo amplifier can run on a single power supply; however, the life of the amplifier will be shortened due to higher input current and ripple current

7. The α series servo system uses an independent feedback discharge regeneration discharge element, and its design has a rear-mounted heat sink that extends through a hole in the mounting panel. This design can dissipate most of the heat in the control chassis.

The β series servo amplifier is a panel-mounted device. When installing the amplifier, ensure that there is a specified space above, below, and between adjacent amplifiers so that the amplifiers can convect.

8. The control accuracy of the α series is higher than that of the β series. The α series is suitable for linear and contour control (i.e., higher precision processing), while the β series is suitable for point control.
