This type of fault can be resolved simply by replacing the encoder with one of the same model.

First, clean any dirt from the machine tool. Handle the encoder with care during removal; the internal glass code disk must not be subjected to any mechanical stress.

Align the encoder's white protruding line with the black slot, gently press it into place, tighten the screws, and securely connect the wiring.

After powering on, reset the Z-axis encoder's mechanical home position, check the software limits and tool change position, and verify that tool changes occur without issues to complete the repair.

This repair addresses a "soft" encoder disconnection fault on the Z-axis of a Fanuc drill-tap center.

Remove the encoder: Open the top cover of the machine and carefully detach the encoder wiring and the unit itself.

Install the new encoder: Align the slot with the alignment line, gently press it into place, and tighten the screws.

Connect wiring: Connect the cables and power on the machine; check for faults and make adjustments.

Set mechanical home: Reset the Z-axis home position and verify software limits and the tool change position.

Repair complete: Verified multiple tool changes with no issues; repair concluded.
