How to repair GSK AC Servo Drivers?

When repairing a GSK AC servo driver, safety must always be the first priority. After powering off the unit, it is necessary to wait several minutes to allow the internal DC bus voltage to fully discharge, as high voltage can remain inside the drive. Directly handling the device without proper discharge can result in electric shock or further damage to the equipment.
In practical maintenance work, the most important reference is the alarm code displayed on the driver. GSK servo drives typically indicate faults through specific error codes, such as overcurrent, overvoltage, or encoder faults. Technicians should use these codes to identify the general fault direction before taking further action. In many cases, the issue is not caused by the drive itself but by external factors such as a locked motor, loose encoder wiring, or unstable power supply.
After identifying the alarm, a basic inspection of external components should be carried out. This includes checking whether the servo motor windings are shorted, whether the encoder connections are secure, and whether the input voltage is stable. This step is critical, as many so-called “drive failures” are actually caused by problems outside the drive. Skipping this step can lead to misdiagnosis and unnecessary repairs.
Once external issues have been ruled out, the drive can be opened for internal inspection. Common failure points include the power module (IGBT), rectifier bridge, and electrolytic capacitors. A short circuit between output terminals usually indicates a damaged IGBT module, which must be replaced. Bulging or leaking capacitors should also be replaced immediately, as they can affect the stability and reliability of the drive. Additionally, the internal power supply board is another common source of failure; damage here may result in no display or failure to start.
After completing the repair, power should be restored carefully. It is recommended to perform an initial test without load to verify that the driver powers up correctly. Then, reconnect the motor and gradually test operation. At the same time, ensure that all parameters are correctly configured, including motor type and encoder settings, since incorrect parameters can also cause abnormal operation or alarms.
